More wet weather is on the way with heavy rain forecast for the New Year's weekend.

Sussex residents are told to make the most of today's dry weather as it could be the last they see until the New Year.

The rain will begin first thing Friday morning and will remain heavy into the early afternoon.

On Friday afternoon, there will be a brief period of dryness but the sun will remain hidden by heavy clouds.

New Year's Eve will be even wetter, with heavy rain forecast for the whole day.

Flood alerts remain in place across the county due to the torrential rain predicted.

Currently, the Environment Agency's most severe flood warning is in place for Alfriston.

At times, there will be as much as four to eight millimetres of rain per hour.

While the wind has dropped slightly from the gale forces reached earlier this week, it will remain blustery throughout the weekend.

On exposed coasts, the wind will be felt even more strongly with gusts of over 40mph hitting Brighton's seafront.

Thankfully, the bank holiday Monday is expected to be a dry, bright and mild day and the strong winds will have dropped.
