As we leave the blue days of January behind, the first weekend in February sees many events happening across the city.

From comedy to live music, and football to theatre, The Argus has put together a jam-packed calendar for this weekend.


Brighton v Bournemouth

The Seagulls will take on south coast opponents AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League when the whistle blows on Saturday.

Just over 30,000 fans will descend on the Amex Stadium at 3pm to watch the game against relegation-zone Bournemouth.

Heather Peace

Actress come singer Heather Peace is performing tracks from her newly-released album This Love on Sunday, February 5.

She'll take to the stage at intimate venue Chalk in Pool Valley after 18 months filming. She joined BBC soap Eastenders as the character Eve Unwin in 2021.

She said: "I'm excited to play in front of a live audience again.

"It'll be good to be in a room with everyone again and smash out the tunes with my band. I can't wait."

Ben Hemsley

Newcastle dance DJ Ben Hemsley will spin the decks at The Arch on Saturday.

He'll play at the club between 11pm and 5am.

A spokesman for Beatport, a leading store for electronic music, said: "Ben Hemsley is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most exciting new talents in the house music world with luring melodies and avours of old school rave nostalgia."

Vintage Kilo Sale

Fans of retro clothing can get their hands on a new fit by-the-kilo at the vintage kilo sale on Saturday.

Between 11am and 5pm, St. Bart's Church will be tranformed into a hall filled with 9 tonnes of vintage clothes.

Entry costs £2, and one kilogram of clothes is £20. You pick and mix your clothes off the rack, and pay by weight at the end.

Forge Comedy Club

Tripadvisor's number one comedy club will open its doors on Saturday to a side-splitting lineup of Connor Burns, Javier Jarquin, Stephen Amos and MC Mark Olver.

The comedy club was created by award-winning comedian Stephen Grant, and has included acts such as Romesh Ranganathan, Russell Kane and Joel Dommett in the past.
