Who do you think deserves a free bunch of flowers this Valentine's Day?

Florist Kate Langdale, from Seven Dials, is offering 20 bouquets of flowers to deserving members of the community after a regular customer donated to the cause.

She is encouraging people to nominate those who "really deserve a bouquet."

Kate, who runs a shop in Dyke Road, said: "Maybe you know someone who's done something extraordinary, or maybe they've been through a tough time.

"Valentine's is all about love, and we want to share that."

The heartwarming gesture came about after regular customer Jo Edwards said she would be out of the country on Valentine's Day.

Kate added: "Jo always buys herself flowers on Valentine's day. Each year she treats herself to a lovely bouquet .

"She told me that she wouldn't be able to this year, but she would like to donate something to share with the community. I thought this was a lovely idea, so we decided to give out 20 bouquets to people who deserve it.

"Hopefully it will cheer a few people up.

"There’s nothing like getting a bunch of flowers. To go and buy yourself a bunch of flowers is the last thing on a lot of people’s list at the moment, so to give someone a treat on Valentine's will be great."

Jo, a lawyer from Seven Dials, added: "It just felt like quite a nice thing to do. I've been going to Kate for 12 or 13 years now but this Valentine's, I won't be there.

"I decided to give Kate some money and do something a bit philanthropic, and give people something that is a bit of a luxury at the moment. Something that would brighten someone's day.

"Covid really reinforced the meaning of community for me, and this is a way of reaching out to the community."
