A crossing on the A259 remains taped off after a vehicle was reported to have crashed into the barriers on the road.

Police tape surrounds the crossing near Bloomsbury Place in Kemp Town, Brighton, after residents reported hearing an “explosion” late on Friday evening.

The incident, believed to have taken place at around 11pm, has caused significant damage to the crossing.

Barriers on the westbound side of the road have been knocked over while metal poles on the island crossing have been bent by the collision.

Traffic data suggested an accident was reported by a member of the public at around 11pm on Friday.

Sussex Police have been approached for comment.
