A man is attempting to complete a mammoth triathlon including swimming round the Isle of Wight and cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats after being diagnosed with Parkinsons.

Allan Coe, who was diagnosed with the degenerative disease in 2019, is currently attempting the 1,000-mile cycle across the UK and the swim.

Now, Allan, 58, from Fontwell, says he is having to train his mind and his body as he also looks to climb Mount Snowdon next month.

He said: “I’ve had to retrain the conscious positive side of my brain to communicate that I can cycle for an amount of time without stopping, rather than listening to the negative subconscious side of my brain telling me my muscles are tired and it’s time to stop.”

Allan will be joined by fellow Parkinson’s patient Jamie Snarski, from Derbyshire, along the cycle ride.

The pair hope to complete the journey within two weeks.

Parkinson’s affects the body’s nervous system. The triathlon will raise money for Cure Parkinson’s, a charity helping to find a cure for the disease.
