Two Sussex beaches are among the top ten most popular in the UK.

West Wittering and Camber Sands, one at each end of the county, both feature in the new rankings.

The study rated beaches based on the number of Instagram hashtags used for the location.

Camber Sands beach comes in seventh and is commended for its “colossal” 5,000 metre beach.

Its vast stretches of fine sandy dunes make it a hot spot for beach sports and its size means “it never feels crowded”, said a spokesman for journeyera.com, the travel blog which commissioned the research.

The beach has the most hashtags of any in the ranking, racking up a whopping 120,000.

At the opposite end of the county and just behind in eighth place is West Wittering beach.

It spans 1,500 metres and has more than 30,000 posts tagging it on Instagram.

According to the researchers, the beach is renowned for its excellent water quality and is home to conservation areas, making it a hit among families and water sport enthusiasts.
