A taste of Australia will come to a corner of Sussex this month as a new brand of wine is launched.

Paul and Bernie Squires, of Crowborough Hill, have spent the past four years working on their vineyard in Australia.

Their years of hard work culminated in the unveiling of Targai Grove at Blackboys Inn in Blackboys on Friday.

The pair are also seeking investors in the vineyard who will receive more than a dozen cases of discounted wine.

The 2005 vintage has been produced on the 20 acres of Australian land the couple bought seven years ago.

The vineyard comprises 37 rows with a mix of durif, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz.

Mr and Mrs Squires joined forces with businessman Robin Gale and set up an office in Ticehurst.

Mr Gale said: "I took up an early opportunity to invest in the vineyard and have watched closely as the wines have matured over the past couple of years. On Friday we'll be showcasing the 2005 vintage, which is a fantastic wine.

"The 2003 and 2004 wines proved so popular with friends and family that we are doing this on a much larger scale."

The vineyard is seeking 300 investors to cough up £1,550 each, for which they will get 13 cases of wine and updates on the progress in Australia, as well as tasting sessions and input into future blends.

Mr Gale added: "That works out at about £10 a bottle. In America it's retailing for about £20 a bottle so it really is a good deal for a great wine from a proper boutique vineyard."

The small vineyard, on the banks of the Ovens River in Victoria, uses handmade methods to create the wine. As a result only a small amount is produced - between 3,000 and 5,000 cases.
