Fire crews were called to a beach yesterday after an electric skateboard burst into flames.

The e-skateboard caught alight on Brighton beach opposite Kings Road Arches on Sunday afternoon (October 15).

Firefighters used a hose to extinguish the flames then put the skateboard in a wheelie bin filled with water to make sure the fire was entirely out.

The incident was caught on camera. The video is at the top of the article. To view it, disable any ad blockers.

“We used CO2, a hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera before submerging it in a wheelie bin.

“The fire is being treated as accidental and there were no injuries reported.”

It comes after an e-scooter battery caught fire in a bin lorry earlier this year, and in 2022, a fire caused £62,000 worth of damage to a Brighton collection vehicle and kept it off the road for several months, causing significant service disruption.
