A Latin-inspired food and drink night at a pub “could not have gone better”.

The event, called Fiesta at the Rock Inn Pub, hosted an event last Saturday focused on the Mexican liquor which is made from the agave plant.

Cuban sandwiches, mezcal salsa and vegetarian African casserole were on the menu followed by a dessert which had a double chocolate brownie and mezcal in a lime sorbet.

People also got two shots of mezcal during the night.

Private chef Nick Jaye teamed up with Erika Martinez Leon who works for Gente de Mezcal for the Latin-themed event last weekend in Rock Street, Kemp Town, Brighton.

The 59-year-old said: “It was a great success. We did 50 covers, it was very popular. The Cuban sandwich and the dessert went down very well.

“People really enjoyed the mezcal and food combo. It could not have gone better really.

“Using the mezcal it was about invention and creating something new. It was a fusion of flavours.

“The pub was very full and a nice atmosphere. We sold well over double the amount of tickets than we thought. The rugby was on too which might have helped.

“People liked the mezcal. You just sip it, it is a type of liquor. It has a nice smooth smoky background to it."

The event had been in the making since August when Nick and Erika decided to pair the idea of food and mezcal.
