One lucky visitor to Drusillas Zoo Park will win a close encounter experience with their adorable baby capybara triplets.

Cheeky trio Marmalade, Tango, and Squash, were born to mum Clementine and dad Augustus on September 28, with weekend encounters too meet the happy family booked up until April next year.

But capybara fans could skip the queue and meet the gang if they win the fundraiser prize draw, with all money going to the special educational needs and disability charity Amaze.

Drusillas Zoo Park, near Alfriston, hopes to raise enough money to support many of the charity’s projects, including fun days enabling disabled children, their siblings and parents to connect with other families in a safe and inclusive space.

Amaze is a Sussex-based charity set up in 1997 by a group of parent carers to support other parent carers through the challenges of bringing up a disabled child.

Anyone who would like to enter can do so via the zoo’s Crowdfunder until December 15: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/win-a-baby-capybara-experience

The triplets also have an older brother, Satsuma, who was delighted to meet his siblings earlier this year.

Head zoo keeper Gemma Romanis said: “We are over the moon to welcome three new capybara babies. We were all so excited when Satsuma was born last year and it’s amazing that now he’s been joined by not one, but three siblings.

“It’s been a long journey to get to this point because Clementine really struggled to find a mate she connected with. She’s very affectionate and loving with us, but in contrast, had been very dismissive towards other capybaras we’ve tried to introduce over the years.

“We saw a glimmer of hope in her behaviour towards Augustus and did everything we could to encourage it. In a lovely turn of events, she fell pregnant last year and gave birth to Satsuma and now the family has grown even more.”
