A bleed control cabinet has been installed in memory of a resident.

It is in Vicarage Field, Hailsham, next to the Maybugs store and contains equipment made for dealing with life-threatening bleeds.

This includes a chest seal, a quick-stop tourniquet and a clotting gauze.

When someone calls 999 and asks for Sussex Police they will be given a code to access the cabinet and instructions on how to use its contents.

Councillor Kelvin Williams, lead councillor for public health, wellbeing and asset management at Wealden District Council, said: “I hope that these bleed kits are never needed, but should the need arise, these kits are accessible and could be vital to saving a person’s life.”

Project Youth, a project aimed at empowering young people and improving their relationships at home and in the community, is behind the bleed kit scheme.

Accurate Roofing, a Hailsham company, funded the bleed control cabinet. It is in memory of Darren Croxton who was fatally stabbed in the town in 2012 at the age of 25.

The Argus launched its Cut Knife Crime campaign last year. Our mission is to help reduce knife crimes and the number of people being injured and killed in stabbings.

We aim to do this through increasing the use of knife amnesty bins, educating young people about knife crime and having more bleed control kits in pubs, shops and businesses.

The Cut Knife Crime campaign is being backed by celebrities, politicians and community leaders.
