A brownies group has celebrated their 100 year anniversary.

The 1st Burgess Hill Brownies marked a century since their opening on February 22.

The group was founded in 1924 and has changed in numerous ways over the years, including changes to their uniform, badges, and the wording of their promise.

In this time, the group has also hosted not only regular weekly gatherings but also weekends away, day trips, and fundraising initiatives.

Their fundamental values have remained the same, the group has said.

At their anniversary event, all members wore commemorative red polo tops with a unique badge to mark the occasion.

The original registration certificate was also displayed as part of the celebration.

Since the beginning of last year, 11 Brownies have gained their gold awards, a special achievement, with an extra five expected to finish before the term ends.

Current leaders Sue Mitchell and Veronica Gibbs, who have between them volunteered for over a century and will soon be retiring, are now looking for people to take over and lead the group.

A spokesman for the group said: "1st Brownies want to be able to continue for another century, can you or do you know someone who could support these girls?

"You don't have to commit to attending every week, and volunteers will be fully supported and given training."
