A Post Office van burst into flames in the middle of a busy residential road.

Smoke was billowing from the engine of the vehicle in Whitehawk Way, Brighton this morning. 

Passersby captured the moment on camera as flames leapt from the van.

Firefighters were on the scene quickly, using blue lights to make their way from nearby Roedean Fire Station.

They brought the flames under control and no one was hurt.

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called on March 6 at 11.16am to reports of single vehicle fire in Whitehawk Way, Brighton.

"The fire was deemed to be accidental."

The Post Office was contacted for comment.
