More explosive devices have been found on a beach famously known for having "hidden dangers".

Medmerry Beach, near Chichester, has been closed to the public for years as a result of ordnance continually washing up on the shores.

"We would like to remind you that this beach has many dangers including unexploded ordnance, and is closed to the public," a spokesman for the Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team previously said.

The most recent case of ordnance being found was on Saturday when the Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team was called to reports of items on the beach.

A spokesman for Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team said: "The team located several pieces of ordnance, photos were taken and sent to E.O.D (Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team) and a cordon was put in place.

"Once E.O.D arrived on scene they assessed the ordnance and a controlled explosion was carried out on a couple of the pieces as they were still explosive. The other items of ordnance were taken away with them for safe disposal."

People have been warned that these explosive items can come in all different shapes and sizes and should always be reported to the coastguard.

The coastguard offered a stern reminder of this in 2021 after reports that people were going to the beach and picking up these explosive devices.

A spokesman for Selsey Coastguard said at the time: "The beach at Medmerry has many hidden dangers including unexploded ordnance.

"There is no beach access from the rock armour either side (Selsey or Bracklesham) so please don’t try.

"We’re very concerned to hear reports of more and more of you going onto the beach, picking up ordnance and taking it home.

"Don’t. Just don’t.

"These dead-looking objects are often highly explosive – do you really want it going off in your garden or house, risking your life and that of those you love?

"Stay off Medmerry beach. It’s closed for a reason."
