Swimming pools are getting a funding boost.

Seahaven Swim and Fitness Centre in Chapel Street, Newhaven, was gifted £149,650 from the Sport England Swimming Pool Support Fund.

The funding, which is part of a £20 million national fund, aims to increase the energy efficiency of swimming pools to help tackle increased operating costs.

Other pools to benefit from this funding in the county include Motcombe Pool, in Motcombe Road, Eastbourne, and the Sovereign Centre in Royal Parade, Eastbourne.

Motcombe Pool, owned by Eastbourne Borough Council, will receive £135,700 from the support fund.

This includes £107,500 towards Photo Voltaic (PV) panels for heating the water and £28,200 for pool covers.

Meanwhile The Sovereign Centre has been granted £91,990 from the fund to replace gas boilers that are reportedly more than 20 years old.

The funding will also be used to install LED lighting.
