A boy remains in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car.

The 13-year-old was airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London with "potentially life-threatening injuries" yesterday afternoon.

He was hit by a blue Ford in Hazelwood Avenue, Eastbourne, at around 3.50pm.

The air ambulance landed at around 4.30pm and left for London at 5.40pm. It arrived at the hospital 20 minutes later.

King College Hospital is a major trauma centre that deals with serious injuries.

The road was closed well into the evening as police investigated the crash. The Ford had damage to its front driver’s side and there was a crack on the windscreen.

Sussex Police confirmed the boy remains in hospital with serious injuries today. They said no arrests have been made.

A force spokesman said yesterday: “Emergency services were called to a report of a collision between a car and a child in Hazelwood Avenue, Eastbourne, at around 3.50pm on Wednesday.

“A 13-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. His next of kin have been informed.

“Enquiries are under way to establish the full circumstances of the situation.
