A travel expert has shared tips for saving hundreds of pounds on holidays – including packing a meal deal and vacuum packing clothes.

Eva Bacchoo said she has saved £1,000 over the course of five holidays by avoiding unnecessary costs such as airport food and extra luggage weight.

The 22-year-old suggests travellers monitor flight prices a week before booking and fly from alternative cities to save themselves money.

Eva, from Bognor, turned her hobby of budget holiday hunting into a career when she started to post her tips on TikTok, accumulating 200,000 followers.

She regularly updates her followers on the best deals available and even provides a holiday finding service for £15.

She now jets around the world free thanks to brand deals and has visited six countries in total including America, Italy and Greece.

Eva said: “Travelling can be really accessible as long as you know how to cut costs.

“Travelling light is essential because airlines charge so much for a suitcase and overhead baggage. I use vacuum bags to flatpack all of my clothes into one small bag.

“It’s also important to be super flexible with your dates - flying a day later or earlier can save hundreds.

“On top of that compare the same holiday across multiple websites, never settle for the first one you find.

“Also be flexible with your departure airport, I recommend getting a £5 Megabus from one city to another if it’s cheaper.”

She said taking advantage of last-minute deals is risky but essential.

“Last May I booked a holiday three weeks in advance," she said.

"The trip included flights, transfers, luggage and the hotel and it cost £390 per person instead of £850 – the original price.”

When it comes to booking flights, Eva recommends looking at Skyscanner, a flight comparison site, which she described as “an absolute godsend".

“Before booking a flight I always recommend monitoring flight prices for a week first to see which days prices fluctuate," Eva said.

“Bank holidays and paydays are always good days to book holidays because lots of companies do bank holiday and payday deals.

“For these deals I’d look at Jet 2, Tui, Love Holidays and On the Beach.”

Eva wants people to know budget holidays don’t always mean backpacking, they can be family friendly too.

“A lot of people think budget travel is just backpacking and staying in hostels but realistically there are very affordable hotels in Europe that are clean, comfortable and in great locations," she said.

“There’s ways to work with any budget abroad.”
