The school has over 1,200 students including some who live there.

A spokesman for The Schools Index by Carfax Education said: "Brighton College boasts an innovative history as one of Sussex’s first independent schools.

"The school continues to offer a progressive outlook, with a gender-neutral approach to uniform and students find a wide variety of avenues for self-expression to embolden their academic career.

"With a diverse student population, they have a distinctive focus on a child-centred approach. Languages feature prominently, with Russian and German offered and Mandarin compulsory up to Year 8.

"An entrepreneurship programme, for sixth formers mentors pupils in product design and presentation, culminating in a ‘dragon-den's’ style competition.

"With 81 per cent A*-A grades this summer, it is not surprising that the vast majority of students go on to study at a global top 100 university."

Other schools on the list include Eton College in Windsor and Harrow School in northwest London.
