Dolphins were spotted jumping around a boat playfully on Monday.
Ben South, from Sompting, told The Argus that they were following his boat for around ten minutes just one mile from Shoreham Port on April 8.
The 29-year-old, who was taking his new boat out for the first time, said it was the second time he had come across bottlenose dolphins.

The fishing enthusiast said: "This is the second time I’ve seen bottlenose dolphins and it feels like such a blessing to see them in their natural environment.
"It feels amazing, you can tell they are putting on a show and enjoy doing it.
"It was my first ever trip out on the boat and we were only at sea for 30 minutes. For ten minutes they stayed with us jumping out the side and front of the boat.
"It was incredible seeing them."
Ben, who is a software test automation engineer, also said that he had not planned to go out on the boat that day and it was a last-minute decision.
It was his first trip out on his new boat, which is being moored in Shoreham.
Ben, who shares his footage at sea on his Youtube Southys Fishing, also reported the sighting to the Sussex Dolphin Project who track the movement of dolphins in the county.
They said: "What an experience.
"Three bottlenose dolphins were sighted south of Shoreham Port on Monday afternoon.
"Huge thanks to Ben for reporting his sighting and sharing this amazing footage of the dolphins.
"If you spot dolphins anywhere along the Sussex coastline, please report the details to Sussex Dolphin Project."
As well as this dolphin sighting, a number of seal sightings have also been reported in recent weeks along the coastline.
One was spotted in Kemp Town by a dog walker, who said she was "over the moon" to see the seal.
Another seal has also been spotted over the last few weeks relaxing at the base of the cliffs by Birling Gap.
People have been reminded to keep away from the seals and keep their dogs on lead when in the area.
