Police are calling on residents to use knife amnesty bins across the county to potentially save lives.

The bins are located in police stations and give people the opportunity to dispose of knives with "no questions asked".

In the last week, 20 knives were safely disposed of in just one of these bins.

A spokesman for Brighton and Hove Police said: "A weapon off the streets of Brighton and Hove is a potential life saved.

"PC Muggeridge and PC Humphreys were out as part of Operation Safety last week and recovered 20 knives from one of our designated amnesty bins.

"Knife amnesty bins are available in police stations across Sussex - safely dispose of knives with no consequences and no questions asked."

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "We encourage the public to drop off their dangerous or unwanted knives and blades at our knife amnesty bins.

"Knife amnesty bins are available all year round in police stations across Sussex."
