An independent cinema celebrated its 113th anniversary on Monday.

The Dome, in Marine Parade, Worthing, was first opened as an entertainment centre called The Kursaal in 1911 before opening its first cinema screen in October that year.

A spokesman for the cinema said on Monday: "Today is our 113th birthday.

"The Dome first opened on April 15th 1911 as The Kursaal - an entertainment centre which included a roller skating rink.

"Our first cinema screen opened in October 1911 and the rest is history.

"We've shown thousands of films since then and we hope to show many more in the future.

"Thank you to all our customers for being part of our journey - we hope to see you soon."

A number of people from the community took to social media to praise the cinema.

Shelley Newman said: "I've been watching films at the Dome Cinema since I was a child, love it there."

Stephanie Wickham, another Worthing resident, said: "I love our beautiful Dome cinema. We’re so lucky to have it."

Ann O'keife called the cinema a "magical wonderful picture house" and another visitor, Fiona Ramasami, called the cinema a "special place".
