Six people have been taken to hospital after a lorry collided with a minibus and a people carrier on the M23.

An air ambulance was called to the motorway after the road was closed following the multi-car collision earlier today.

The northbound carriageway remains partly closed near Gatwick Airport following the incident.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the M23 northbound between junctions eight and nine involving three vehicles this morning.

“The collision occurred at around 11.45am and involved an HGV, a minibus and a people carrier. Six people have been taken to hospital.

“The motorway was closed northbound while officers dealt with the scene.”

Traffic remains congested following the incident after the road was partially re-opened earlier this afternoon.
