The official diversion route for the full A27 weekend closure has been confirmed by National Highways.

The road, which is set to be closed eastbound only in Lancing, will be shut from 9pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.

This is part of the New Monks Farm development to allow the roundabout and other carriageway changes to be completed.

Throughout the closure this weekend, motorists travelling from the Worthing direction to Shoreham should follow the official diversion route set out by National Highways.

Last time, a number of motorists used the A259, which is not part of the official diversion route, and were stuck in hours of standstill traffic.

One motorist told The Argus that it took her two hours to get from Hove to Lancing and back, while another motorist sat in 45 minutes of crawling traffic from Lancing to Southwick.

According to National Highways, the official detour route is via the A27, A24 and A283.

Motorists are advised to drive up the A24 through Findon to Washington.

They should then turn onto the A283 at the Washington Roundabout and drive through Steyning and back to the Shoreham Flyover bypass.

After this one, two more A27 weekend closures are planned.

One will be in May and one is scheduled for June.
