Armed police descended on a home and arrested three men.
Officers were called to Selywn Avenue, Littlehampton, at around 6.50pm yesterday.
A 25-year-old man called the police saying he was being attacked.
Three men, aged 27 and two aged 23 were arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in custody at this time.
The man did not require hospital treatment.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "This was an isolated incident which did not pose a threat to the wider community.
"Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to report it to Sussex Police online quoting serial 1214 of 02/05."
