An office block is to be converted into 51 flats.

Plans to turn St Mark's House in Upperton Road, Eastbourne, into homes have been approved by Lewes and Eastbourne Councils.

The scheme by Upperton Investments Ltd will include 48 one-bed flats and three two-bed flats.

According to the plans, the current 32 parking slots and four disability bays at the town centre site will be kept for residents.

There will also be a communal area for bicycle storage.

Upperton Investments Ltd said the residents would benefit from good access to shops, services and public transport links.

It said the building, which was formerly used by East Sussex County Council's children's services department, had been empty for months before the plans were submitted.

It is not confirmed when work on the site will begin.
