Argghh, I knew this weather was too good to last. I blame my colleague moaning about it being too hot yesterday. Most of the Edinburgh Fringes I’ve ever been to have been accompanied by high winds and driving rain, so I was quite enjoying the novelty of being able to go to shows without needing to wear a sou’wester.
Saw Shazia Mirza on Wednesday night – the first show I’ve seen in the Udder Place. It was strange being in an inflatable tent and slightly distracting with the noise of hot air being pumped in whirring in the background.
Had to duck away from The Argus’ webcam in the on-site bar afterwards. It’s streaming footage of the shennanigans going on in there direct to our website. I’m sure it’s going to be the undoing of me. That or the brandy hot chocolate from the milkshake stand nearby. That stuff is great. I reckon Tom at the box office could do with a few of those – the poor guy is practically living in that Portacabin. I’m sure I saw a sleeping bag in there.
Spent last night at Komedia watching The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Orchestra. Brilliant, silly and truly, only at the Fringe.
Two more reviews to go tonight and I have high hopes for both. I’m going to see Celebrating Linda Smith at the Dome and musical comedian Tim Minchin. I’m a massive fan of Linda Smith’s work – loved that brilliant quip about her hometown of Erith in Kent; “It’s not twinned with anywhere, but it’s got a suicide pact with Dagenham.” And Tim Minchin is someone I’ve never been quick enough to get tickets for at Edinburgh, so looking forward to finally catching him.
The thing I’m looking forward to most of all, rather pathetically, is my lie-in tomorrow. Me and my bed have been apart for too long this week...
