The sister of teen knife murder victim Jay Kensett told of the terrifying moment she was threatened with a blade.

Jayde Kensett, 20, was confronted by a woman holding an eight-inch knife after a party off Boundary Road, Portslade.

She backed The Argus Knives Cost Lives campaign, calling for a minimum two-year prison sentence for anyone caught with a blade.

Promising footballer Jay Kensett, 16, was killed in March 1999 in Whitehawk, Brighton.

Darren Mateer, then 31, was sentenced to 14 years behind bars for stabbing the teenager in his heart and lungs.

Jayde said she was threatened by a woman when she returned to the party at about 3am on July 5 after buying food.

She said: "I was at a party with some friends.

"Everyone was having a laugh when some of the boys wanted to go to the shop. I decided to go with them but on the way back from the shop a girl was walking up the road.

"As she got closer she started shouting at me. She was screaming at me and at this point I noticed she had an eight-inch knife in her hand, which frightened me.

"The next thing I did was pull the knife off her. I grabbed it by the blade and tried to get if off her, cutting my palm and thumb in the process.

"This whole incident has left me shaken, scared and upset."

Jayde reported the incident to the police who are investigating.
