Two men were injured when a gang of thugs broke into their house and attacked them with weapons.
Police believe the attack was planned because one of the attackers spoke to one of the victims by name.
The attack, in Stoneage Close, Bognor, took place on Wednesday at about 10pm.
Both men, in their 20s, suffered minor injuries and needed hospital treatment.
They have since been discharged.
Detective Sergeant Michelle Auger, of Sussex Police, said: "This is an unusual incident.
“Both occupants were lucky they did not receive serious injuries.”
Anyone who saw a disturbance or anything suspicious in the street is asked to call DS Auger on 0845 6070999 quoting serial 2201 of August 6 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
