I agree with Ray Fletcher about the Royal Sussex County Hospital (Letters, August 16). I have lived in the Brighton area since 1970 and have been completely astonished that anyone with an ounce of common sense would consider continually developing the Eastern Road site.
People with mobility problems have enormous difficulties getting to the Millennium Wing and as if the parking problem was not bad enough already, it is now considerably worse with the addition of the children’s hospital. Imagine wanting to see your sick child and being unable to park the car.
I also wonder how easily fire engines would be able to deal with a fire on the upper levels. If they could get near the buildings at all.
Other towns have situated hospitals in much better places. The Sussex University site would have been more sensible for Brighton.
I guess now that additional money has been spent on the current building, there is no chance of the people of Brighton and Hove getting a suitable building in an attractive and accessible position.
