Skipper Chris Adams is out of the Sussex side for today's Championship game against Surrey at the Oval.
Adams injured his ribs during last week's Pro40 League game against Hampshire. Mushtaq Ahmed, who is still struggled by a sore knee, is another high-profile absentee.
Mike Yardy, fit again after a shoulder problem, is leading the side while Rory Hamilton-Brown comes in against his former county to make his second Championship appearance of the season.
