Do you think my husband has Asperger’s syndrome? He is an accountant. I suppose he has always been a rather “geeky” sort of guy but now he is in his 30s he seems to be more and more interested in things such as computer games and train-spotting – and less and less interested in me. I looked up Asperger’s on the net and this behaviour seems typical of it.

Could I get him diagnosed?

Well, this year I’ve already seen two women who seriously thought their husbands had Asperger’s syndrome. I interviewed both men and they seemed perfectly normal. It seems to me unlikely your husband has the condition. If you really want to pursue this avenue, you could persuade him to consult a psychiatrist or a clinical psychologist to see if they agree with your diagnosis. However, I’m not sure what help this will be to anybody.

Might it be better to try marriage counselling?
