Like so many of Brighton and Hove’s residents, I recently received the latest issue of City News produced by Brighton and Hove City Council. I was appalled to see a map of the Old Steine that included what appeared to be a pond opposite the fountain.
A pond is for ducks and fish.
We do not have one in this area.
However, what we do have is a war memorial to commemorate many brave men.
I understand that this is based on an Ordnance Survey map and is an artistic impression only.
However, I feel this is another example of cutting corners from our council. There is no explanation that this is not a pond but a well-deserved tribute to those friends and family who residents have loved and lost. I find it sad that our council has such a blasé attitude to city pride.
