It’s not been an easy start for fans at Lewes FC. Good start at Kidderminster, followed by a not so good home game against Crawley.

Salisbury offered a different test, though. One more of a mental challenge, for players and the fans. The attendance was obviously down from Tuesday but those there were hopeful of getting a result.

Cham Fenelon started after his impressive 20 minutes off the bench in midweek and we looked ok early on, until we conceded what was widely thought of as a poor goal.

Not long after, Cham pulled us level with a neatly taken lob with the home fans erupting in cheers of, “unit, unit, unit”. The smiles soon wore off as we conceded another to end up going in behind at the break.

I had to miss the second half, but I’m told we were the dominant side for much of it, then Salisbury scored two late killer goals and that was that.

Still, who would have thought we’d be in similar circumstances to pre-season favourites Stevenage and, prior to their 6-3 defeat of nearby Eastbourne, Oxford too.

There’s still a long way to go in this season and no one can deny it won’t be hard but if the lads can keep putting the effort in that so far elusive win will come soon and give everyone a lift.

We look set to be taking around 15 fans to Weymouth, disappointing but understandable. To those going, I hope the Rooks treat you to win and to those that aren’t get a smile at 5 o’clock when the result comes through. You never know, with a bit of luck we could be mid table this time next week!
