Steve Coogan fans are selling tickets for his Brighton show on eBay for just 99p after poor reviews.

The Hove-based star of Alan Partridge was hoping to bounce back after ten years away from the stand-up circuit with his new show, Alan Partridge and Other Less Successful Characters.

But following bad write-ups for shows in the North, with some fans walking out early, tickets for his two shows at the Brighton Centre are now being sold on the internet for less than a pound.

Fans who stumped up £35 a ticket to see Coogan in Liverpool accused him of being under rehearsed and fluffing his lines.

Audience member Geoff Owen said: “The whole thing was a shambles – fluffed lines, under rehearsed and, of course if all else fails to hide weak material, fall back on the use of foul language for a cheap laugh.”

Critics in Stoke branded Coogan’s performance there a “mediocre shambles”.

Websites have been swamped by fans who criticised the comedian, with some demanding their money back.

David Jones, from London, said: “I paid £48 for a London ticket.

“If this is all I have to look forward to then I’d rather have a refund now. What a let down.”

Tickets for Coogan’s much anticipated Brighton shows, which are on November 21 and 22, have been selling well. But some are on offer on eBay for £20 a pair.

A spokesman for Coogan defended the comic, saying: “A great deal of time and effort has gone into the preparation and production of the live tour.

“We are sorry to hear that some people have not enjoyed the performances.”

Alan Partridge fan Cara Greenfield, from Lancing, defended the star.

She said: “Coogan is an absolute legend. All his recent material has hit the back of the net.

“Anyone who thinks he has lost the plot can kiss my face. Needless to say, I think he will have the last laugh.”
