Firefighters battled flames after fire tore through a thatched cottage.

Crews were called to the blaze in the roof of a cottage in Poling Street, Poling, near Arundel, at about 4pm.

Firefighters from Chichester, Bognor, East Preston, Littlehampton and Worthing took part in the operation.

Efforts to isolate the burning thatch and cut it away from the roof worked, leaving about 10% of the cottage damaged by fire.

No one was home at the time of the blaze. An investigation into the cause is under way.

Ive heard it was a cottage pie in the oven that started the blaze. How bizzare!
