Rail bosses could reinstate parts of their old timetable after pressure from furious commuters.

In December Southern Railway controversially relaunched its Brighton to London service, slashing trains to London Bridge and connecting stations East Croydon and Clapham Junction.

The revamp was plagued by problems, which some passengers say still have not been ironed out.

Southern Railway said it would consider reintroducing the 6.37am to London Bridge, but many commuters are still fuming.

Tom Hosking claimed cancellations and packed carriages frequently blight the daily journey.

He said: "I commute from Haywards Heath to Victoria most morning on the 07.20.

"This train is frequently cancelled or it is made up of five carriages instead of ten."

Another commuter said: "I have been travelling on the 17.45 from Victoria since the extension of the Gatwick Express service and it has only reached Brighton on time once.

"The train has broken down four times."

A Southern Railway spokesman said: "The train Mr Hosking is referring to is an unrefurbished train which still has the original first class compartment and buffet car.

"We have been experiencing some reliability problems with this type of train but we have identified and rectified most of them.

"We can assure passengers we are working extremely hard to bring the reliability of these trains up to standard."

The spokesman added: "We have always said we will be flexible on the timetable and the reintroduction of the early-morning London Bridge service is something we will be consulting people about on our website."
