Not the best few days to follow the boys eh??

It's been a long long week as a Boro fan. Since my last ramblings we have visited Kiddie and come back empty handed and then welcomed Oxford United to a monsoon and tornado hit Priory Lane.

I must say that my first time at Kidderminster was, apart from the result a very enjoyable one. Firstly, a note about the stewards.

As regular readers will know, I have had the occasion to comment on the "Yellow Jacket" brigade more than once, and its not usually complimentary. However, the guys and girls at Aggborough were a real ray of sunshine and a pleasant change to the usual ex-league club standard. They dispensed information in a cheery manner and were happy to chat.

I must however clear up one matter, right here, right now (Thanks Fat Boy Slim). It became apparent to your trusted author that there were fears that I had actually been ejected from the ground shortly after Kiddie took the lead, when the entire EBFC committee saw me "escorted" by a steward the entire width of the the away end. The truth of this matter is quite simple. I asked where a "certain place" was and the nice man was showing me! (It appears there is an area out of CCTV view that you can sneak a quick smoke, but I haven't said that for fear of getting my fluorescent friend in trouble) Cleared that up then!

The food at Aggy was also a nice change and I took advantage of a splendid fresh home made Cottage pie, and worth every penny!! Having suffered Burger-itis at a few grounds this season (Mansfield and carpet spring to mind) to find alternative fayre was a nice suprise.

Tuesday night was Gale Force night at the Lane. If the rain had fallen all day I am sure the pitch would have had surface water lying on it and with the wind at its peak Ellen MacArthur could have mounted another sailing record!

As it was, the pitch stayed flood free but with hurricanes, tornados and a gust or two, the match itself became a lottery. I would estimate that the ball left the ground on average every three minutes. The chance of seeing a soccer spectacle was nil and I for one wouldn't have fancied being out in that weather for 90 mins in shorts!!

Fresh from West Ham, JJ took to the field in the number 38 shirt for his Boro debut and, considering the conditions, gave us all a good glimpse of his talent. Garry and Nick look to have unearthed another gem on loan.

So that's the 1st team waffle out the way but I wanted to give the under-18 set up a plug this week.

Following countless postponements, the squad had up until last Thursday only managed to complete three league games and for the fourth visited Crowborough Athletic, the table toppers. What I thought was the second best game of football I have seen this season, the home team took the honours by the odd goal in 7! Both teams were a credit to their managerial mentors and I saw a very bright crop of youngsters that could carry the future of Sussex football a long way!

Sunday saw a 1-1 draw with local rivals Eastbourne United AFC. I could get hooked on this youth football lark. If any of you are at a loose end on Sunday mornings or Thursday evenings, then have a look to see where the lads are playing. You maybe pleasantly surprised, like I was! (Memo.. Sunday March 8th sees the lads back at Crowborough for an 11am cup tie. Well worth the trip, especially if the tea bar is open, hot food to die for!) So that's my twaddle for another week .... just a quick note re: our neighbours up the A27. I know that many of our fans have their individual views on Lewes FC but to read this week just how close they came to being wound up, being spared by adjournment at the last minute, most genuine Sussex football fans will have a sympathetic vein in the body for the plight at the Pan. Whatever the ins and outs behind the scenes, Rooks fans deserve better and I wish them well in the continuing fight for survival.

Wrexham grace our ground this Saturday. Will "The Sports" excel like they did when Torquay visited or will The Dragons burn us with their fiery breath? Another unbelievable fixture in Eastbourne history await us.
