A well-known former newsagent has died just two months short of her 100th birthday.

Doris Forshaw and her husband Harry opened their first shop in North Road, Lancing, in 1951.

They opened two more newsagents in the 1960s, at Queens Parade, Lancing, and Seadown Parade, Bowness Avenue, Sompting.

The shops were sold in 1968 and the couple lived for many years on the corner of Crabtree Lane and Grinstead Lane, Lancing.

They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1982.

Following her husband’s death in 1984 Mrs Forshaw lived at Shoreham Beach before moving to a flat in Worthing.

Although almost 100 she continued to live alone in her flat until breaking her hip and being admitted to Worthing Hospital.

She is survived by her sons Graham and Keith, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A service will be held on March 20 at 2pm in St James The Less Church, North Lancing, followed by cremation at Worthing.

Graham said all former friends and customers were welcome to attend the church.
