Having been in the same league as Salisbury two seasons ago, it was going to be interesting to visit the Wiltshire side and see how far their stadium had come since we last played at the building site.

Well, the 12 months had certainly produced a nice tidy development and we were also afforded a warm welcome, having been told there would be no segregating. Bearing in mind that Salisbury have seen a similar rise to us and part-timers too, it goes to show what can be achieved by taking things slowly.

The result on the pitch was a bit drab to be honest. We weren't at our best and to be honest probably didn't deserve to bring anything home with us. My personal highlight was winning an Easter Egg on the coach draw.

Sunday saw the under-18s at home and once again it was a goal fest, with an 8-1 win over Uckfield. These lads are putting on some very good footballing displays and Sean and his team could well supply some good local lads to progress upwards within the club. They are at Lancing on Thursday night in the cup final and let's hope they bring the silverware home.

Tuesday saw the visit of Crawley, play-off chasers and a team that likes to think it's the biggest non-league club in Sussex. Until now, we had never managed a victory over them and with the injuries pilling up it was looking as if the trend would continue. Well, as the song goes.. "When the going gets tough, the tough get going" and once again the men in red rose to the occasion. Once again, the squad was rotated and 11 brave hearts went out with only one thought. Victory.

With the new spring sun setting, a good crowd was in attendance to witness a wonderful night at the Lane. It has to be said that it was probably the noisiest night for a while and I have a feeling this could be our new "derby" for the festive period. When that final whistle went, while there was pure jubilation form the home crowd, a certain Scotsman from the other part of Sussex was seen "chatting" loudly at three officials.

Now on the subject of officials, I was very impressed by one of the assistants on Tuesday. He obviously read last week's comments regarding arm muscles and felt he needed to prove just how strong he was. So strong in fact that he broke the flag! Now whether it was the fear of looking foolish again, or they substituted his light flag with an older heavyweight one is anyone's guess but suffice to say he failed to raise it much after that. He only had one thing to wave for, i.e. a penalty, but alas, the flag stayed down. Maybe the run-in with all these midweek games is taking its toll on officialdom too. Tired arms, tired eyes. You have to feel for them, don't you?

With another game with Ebbsfleet tonight and Weymouth coming up Saturday, I will have a hell of a lot to blog on come the weekend. Play your cards right and you may get two next week!

In good news tradition. And finally..... Nothing to report from the Duracell Rabbit this week... Fear not though, as there will be another priceless quote before the seasons end.

Keep the faith!
