Part of a controversial former care home has had its price tag slashed.

The string of empty Victorian properties which once made up Dresden House in Albany Villas and Medina Villas, Brighton, is being converted into more than 30 properties.

Planning permission was granted to Albany Cross, which is connected to Karis Developments, for the whole development in February last year and refurbishment of the properties is under way.

But one of the properties, 38 Medina Villas, was sold off to another developer.

Paula Barnes and Matthew Thompson, of Black Lamb House, Southease, were granted planning permission on April 3 to convert the building into a three bedroom basement flat, with a three-storey, seven bedroom maisonette over the top.

Now the property is back on the market with Strutt & Parker estate agents at a knockdown price.

The advert says it is in need of total remodernisation.

Previously the building was on the market with Hamptons priced at £1.6 million.

The decision to sell Dresden House was made in 2005 after the trustees decided it was too expensive to run.

Many residents were left traumatised after being made to move.

Two residents, Alice Pink, 93, and Edna Henshall, both died soon after they were forced out of their home.
