A man taken to hospital after a fight in a Brighton pub is now described as in a critical condition.

Police were called to the Good Companions pub in Dyke Road, Brighton at about 9.40pm yesterday.

A man was unconscious and not breathing.

They used a defibrillator to resuscitate him while waiting for paramedics.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

The local men, aged 18, 22 and 49, are still in custody this afternoon.

Police have spent today gathering evidence from witnesses who were in the pub at the time.

The 41-year-old, who is also said to be local, was said to be in a serious condition this morning.

By 3pm today police said his condition had got worse and he is now critical.

No information has been released about how the man was originally injured.

Sussex Police said they are not appealing for further witnesses at the moment.
