Heather Mills takes to the roof to open Hove cafe

HEATHER Mills scaled on top of the roof of her new cafe to encourage Hove locals to join her for a veggie feast.

Ms Mills climbed up a ladder and perched precariously on the edge of the new VBites cafe at Hove Lagoon on at the official opening on Saturday.

After climbing on to the roof she said: “My grandma lived here for 38 years and I've been down the road for 10 years.

“I wanted to bring something back to revive this area.

“So much goes on down the road in Brighton and I don't think there's enough going on here.

“There were rumours circulating that I was trying to shut the skate park down, but that's not true. I support the skaters.”

For the full story and to hear the views of residents who attended the opening see Monday's Argus

Do we really need a blow by blow account of this divorcee's life? How about giving publicity to other new ventures or those who don't lay off existing staff when taking over another business?

Or even the paddle boarders who must have passed Ms Mills' café on their 18-miles endurance race today?

YES!

Lets have a story about that new Starbucks on St James' Street! I mean, how DARE they create jobs and bring money to a rundown area of town. It's an absolute DISGRACE...

Give the girl a chance. She's probably financially secure for life. She's investing time, money and effort in something she believes in.

Good Luck Heather.

No wonder the Argus is going down hill. Does the Chief Reporter not read what she writes before it goes on the website. Today will be my last day of making comments. I gave up paying the Argus newspaper several months ago because of the deterioration in the reporting. I then moved to the website, this is worse. We need another newspaper in the city as competition for this rubbish. Good bye everyone.Midnight tonight will be my last comment.

I think you're right about the poor reporting and the lack of proof-readers, but to be honest, I find the comments from posters ( usually ) quite entertaining.

The cafe was completely run down with years of neglet. The previous owners spent little,if nothing, on improving it.

I have lived in Hove all my life (47 years) and have always regarded the cafe as an eyesore that was crying out for investment.

I often thought that if I had the money I would have taken it on myself and completely renovate it. However, at last someone has now done it.

All the residents of Hove should thank her for what she has done.

Not everyone would spend the money needed, especially in the current economic climate.

I would like to thank her for investing her time money and for also being brave enough to do something different.

I look forward to going there soon.

Well done Heather! Ignore the sad snipers!

Local people may be interested to know that after numerous redundancies, cutbacks and centralisation programmes, the parent company that owns the Argus, Newsquest Media Group, has decided to close the press hall in Brighton, meaning that for the first time in its 100 year history the Argus will not be printed in the town but in Southampton. Last May they outsourced most of their pre-press work and advertising design to India, which led to around 20 job losses and also the majority of accounts staff were made redundant after centralising with the Newsquest Southampton. If you go and order Photos from the Head Office or branches, even these are not produced at the Argus anymore but by an external contract company. This is a sad day for the people of Brighton and Sussex who have in the last few years and for various reasons, drifted away from what was once a great local paper. They had a local Womens page which is now being sourced from a National Media Company and also they have reduced the editorial team , lost the Sports Argus, Argus Lite, Source, Rocks and are down to one edition a day which frankly only produces yesterdays news. You may as well just check the web pages for local news including Births/Deaths and Marriages. A local paper will only have a “Heart” if it is run locally as you don’t have that affinity otherwise. It is only a matter of time before the whole Brighton Office will close, leaving even more redundant. The company has also drastically cut the redundancy pay given to those losing their jobs meaning even more misery for them and their families. Once again the Argus reports on the bad news of other companies but not its own. Sad Sad Times for journalism and for the local community....

go girl heather great cafe. as a local resident and at the cafe opening it was a great event and heather seemed to genuinely want to give back and make this work for the good of all our health, and community, lets face it she does not need the money or need to do this. hove lagoon has been left to go to pot over the last few years with rotting pavillion buildings empty smelly small lagoon dirty graffiti wall and generally shabby and unkept. I never heard her say she supported the skaters, I hope she does get rid of them because it will put me off eating there with the smashing and crashing of skateboards the foul language and anti social behaviour and will put off many diners.the skate park is ugly and does not fit in with an art deco lagoon,it will put off more diners than it will attract, council madness as usual.the small toddlers park and pool is very successful though and will bring trade. her food was great and nice staff, cafe looked great inside but disappointed with the outside, it should have had a colour scheme to suit the art deco building and seaside location, like a miami beach cafe with cool contemporary seaside colours, not orange and green like a supermarket. hopefully the slightly tacky colour scheme is something she may tweak. heather take a look at the grand ocean hotel in saltdean now luxury flats with a great cool seaside colour scheme and styling. good luck the locals here support you and appreciate the cafes improvement and hopefully your influence will help the council to realise the lagoon and the surrounding area needs cleaning up for good, instead of continual ridiculous road schemes.

You certainly have not lived in Hove all your life!To start with, you're not dead yet, so it's not all your life until that sad event occurs! But, having spent 47 years in it feels as if it's been a lifetime { or two }!
'Pebbles',after 47 years on that particular beach, I feel you should become a little 'boulder' and move on, even if it 'rocks' your world somewhat!

It does seem that a lot of readers bear sour grapes towards Heather Mills. I admit I'm not a great fan of hers, but if it means a clean up of the Lagoon who am I to judge her motives. Although I do believe that there is a point to be proven to P.M.Sad that it has to be an extended theme on what Linda McCartney started through her own products. Having said that if this scheme enhances the surrounding area of the Lagoon and Hove and brings back a community spirit, then I commend her for her efforts.
