Residents in Kingsley Road are to fall foul of this extended parking scheme (The Argus, August 4) even though they voted against it.

There is no major problem with parking in Kingsley Road and the surrounding area.

There are always spaces and during the day many empty spaces. It is a residential area and the majority of vehicles belong to residents or visitors.

The residents of Kingsley Road voted 65% against the scheme. The agenda for Brighton and Hove City Council’s environment cabinet meeting held earlier this year states 49.6% of residents in the area under consideration supported the scheme and 49.6% opposed it.

Yet the council has stated the voting was very close but overall the scheme was being voted in favour.

Residents like myself have written and emailed the council saying we do not want the scheme but with no acknowledgement.

It appears that in order to “tidy up” the area with roads that voted for the scheme, we are being included too. I have been a resident of Kingsley Road all my life but will now move out of Brighton as soon as possible.

My work means I use a number of vehicles to travel to and from work, none of which I can obtain a residents’ permit for or indeed wish to. It is yet another example of the council wishing to raise income by charging for parking that would otherwise have been free in an area not under pressure for parking.
