We are all encouraged to be ecofriendly and to forget using plastic bags, not use the car to make short runs, etc, but we are also asked to eat organic food.

In my opinion, as well as thousands of other people, organic foods are not organic.

This is borne out by scientists and many of us find that non-organic foods have the same taste as everything else you can buy which is supposedly organic. However, organic food you can buy in specialist shops and supermarkets is hardly ever organic for the majority of what is labelled as organic fruit, vegetables, etc is regularly sprayed with copper sulphate and other pest controls, all of which are backed by the Soil Association. How can the Soil Association and other organisations issue certificates to organic producers when those producers use such chemicals?

Therefore, I suggest people ignore organic foods and buy normal branded goods and thereby save money.

It’s ideal if you have a garden and grow your own, but not all of us have gardens. In my view organic food is a fad and as soon as those misguided people stop buying it and thereby save money, the better.

Needless to say, I applaud those who, like me, buy free-range chickens and eggs and, if you know where to buy, these are often cheaper than battery-raised birds.
