For the past few weeks, I've been setting myself distance targets, and seeing how long they took. As everyone knows, this is called a time trial.

This evening I wasn't particularly up for a significant distance (I can't believe how sore my legs are from WALKING a few miles yesterday), so I decided to see how far I could go in 30 minutes. I know it's a tiny thing, but it's really irritating me that I can't figure out what such a session might be called. So please tell me, if you know.

My pace was definitely a lot quicker than the long runs I've been doing. I completed 5.56km in the time, which is 11+km per hour, which is sub-4-hours for a marathon (42-and-a-bit km). I could probably have gone further, but I am hopeless at the whole pacing thing. When I come to the full training programme in September, there are supposedly 4 levels of effort, each based on a particular BPM (heart rate). I'll discuss that in more detail when the time comes, or I'll have nothing to say later on!

I am going to finish off my evening's activity by walking to the off licence - that'll stretch out the old muscles. And then it's the Proms again. A slovenly, civilised Friday night beckons.
