The latest “pop-up” shop has opened in Brighton.

Former interior designer Johanna Franks, pictured, moved from London two months ago to start her own business selling handmade lampshades, cushions and children’s clothes.

She wanted to open a “pop-up” – a recent trend where traders set up temporarily in an empty property at a discounted rent – and registered her profile with www.popupspace.com.

The website was set up by Brighton-based Rosie Cann to match traders with available space.

Ms Franks, 34, said: “Within a week Rosie contacted me to say she had found a place.”

The new shop, Love Frankie, has opened in the former Posture People store at 3 St George’s Road, Kemp Town.

Ms Franks said: “I had always wanted to open a little shop and this meant I could give it a go.

“If everything goes well I will put an offer in for the full lease. People have come in to say it’s great to see another shop open because it has given the street a real buzz.”

Ms Cann said the demand for pop-up is growing all the time, adding: “Brighton is the sort of place where you see a lot of start-ups and community and artist groups get involved in these projects.”
