A fire broke out after a man fell asleep while cooking chips in a chip pan in Brighton.
Firefighters were called to Bevendean Crescent, at 2.45am today.
A man in his 40s and his 68-year-old mother were in the house at the time.
The woman and a 24-year-old woman living next-door were both taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
