Firefighters spent more than an hour tackling a blaze which broke out in a garage and spread to a house.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to the derelict property in Essex Street, Brighton, at 6.27pm.
Four appliances were sent and the blaze was extinguished by about 8pm.
No one was injured.
