An ambulance, lorry and car were involved in a major collision at the Sompting crossroads in Lancing this morning.
The driver and passenger in the ambulance were taken to Worthing Hospital with neck pains and the female driver of the car is being treated for a fractured wrist.
The green Peugeot was embedded in the side of a lorry during the accident at around 9am.
The ambulance was left lying on its side in the dual carriageway.
The ambulance was on its way to an emergency call but another ambulance attended in its place. Traffic in the area has been seriously affected by the collision and the A27 is currently closed westbound at the Lancing Manor roundabout.
The junction with Upper Boundstone Lane has also been closed and recovery crews are on the way to the scene. Eastbound traffic is passing slowly in one lane, but it is hoped to open the second lane shortly.
Police are appealing for drivers to avoid the scene if at all possible as recovery is likely to take several hours due to the lorry involved being fully laden.
