I was moved by Sarah Luxford’s letter about her experience at the Theatre Royal Brighton with her special-needs child (Letters, August 27).
At the Duke of York’s Picturehouse we understand the difficulties parents with special-needs children face when taking them to the theatre or cinema and have set up a special autism-friendly screening every other month, specifically for child-ren and adults with autism and their family, friends and carers.
For these screenings the soundtrack is turned down a little and low lights are left on in the auditorium.
If anyone makes a noise or moves around that is absolutely fine.
After the film we provide free tea, coffee, juice and biscuits as it is an opportunity for parents and carers to chat with others in the same situation.
Everyone has a right to enjoy an entertaining day out, regardless of what that rude woman said to Ms Luxford.
